The aim for the development is to improve braking performance compared to the original brake disc. EBC used low carbon HPSR steel, having a higher friction coefficient of 18%. This steel is much more resistant to rust than cast steel. Furthermore, the entire surface is protected with a 3 micron thick zinc coating, which abrades already in the area of ​​the pad contact patch during deceleration. Only in this surface area of ​​light rust can form over a long service life.

The brake discs are drilled in the wings of a bird design making with as few holes as possible with optimal cleaning of the brake disc of rainwater and brake dust. The fewer holes there are, the better the wet braking performance and less wear.
